Sensational colour....

A few weekends ago, I visited Dulwich Picture Gallery to see Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven . What a stunning visual display of paintings and sketches illuminating the sensational landscapes of Canada, around Ontario, where the group were based. Tom Thomson was, for me, the most visually exhilerating, a true natural talent and the most perfect colourist. The show was breathtaking, with most of the artists working sketches on the spot before returning to paint the final canvas or board, in the studio. The sketches were often even more scintillating than their larger final works, and shone like jewels...This is certainly a show to visit, if you love landscape and colour..

"Above all elements Canadian, these are painters who knew how to handle paint and colour, and how to turn a small sketch executed on the spot into a high-pitched studio masterpiece." - Brian Sewell

I got so much inspiration from these talented men, and would love to incorporate some new breath into some of my landscape creations that I have found myself experimenting with of late...Striving to achieve the soft painterly qualities with texture and use of light, so have lots of experimenting to do!  I also have just heard I have been shortlisted for a hospital commission in Cambridge, so I think another visit to see these paintings for a second time is on the cards with this commission in mind.. ... Imagery of landscapes and nature is well proven to be of great benefit to enhancing the healing environments, and is something I am excited about pursuing further.  I also found myself putting Canada on the top of my would like to visit countries..wow!
These images below are from two recent panel commissions for private homes, one representing the watery landscape and the other more pastoral.
